1.Dawn Explorations by the Sea

I always enjoy sharing this shoreline with artist friends, though the journey is demanding—one must reach the dunes before first light. In August, we departed Tainan City at 4:30 a.m. That summer, heavy rains and typhoons had reshaped the dunes: eroded forms, reeds and branches washed down from upstream, and marine debris scattered across the beach. These became rich objects for artistic encounters. Dagmar I. Glausnitzer-Smith, WeiZen Ho, and Ieke Trinks each took part in two early-morning explorations, engaging deeply in dialogue with the objects they encountered. Immersed in the moment and the environment, they unfolded unique and profound journeys of discovery.

The morning sea is a mirror, in which each person sees their own present.
